On June 1, 2026, Department of the Interior announced a proposed rule, “Revision of Regulations for Grazing Administration, Exclusive of Alaska.” The rule would expand grazing flexibility and removes references to conservation and stewardship, such as actions to mitigate climate change, as well as removing Land Health Standards from the regulation, which will increase the likelihood of negative impacts to grazing lands and cause subsequent reductions in their ability to act as a carbon sink.
