On April 9, 2025, DOE issued a request for information (RFI) seeking public input on process improvements relating to energy conservation standards and test procedures for consumer products, and certain commercial and industrial equipment. The RFI aims to align DOE standard-setting with President Trump’s Executive Order 14154 on “Unleashing American Energy,” which calls for safeguarding “the American people’s freedom to choose from a variety of goods and appliances,” and for limiting federal regulatory processes “to only the relevant legislated requirements for environmental considerations, and any considerations beyond those requests are eliminated.”
