On July 7, 2025, the Department of Energy (DOE) published a report in compliance with § 3(b) of Executive Order 14262 (Strengthening the Reliability and Security of the United States Electric Grid). This report claimed that renewable energy was insufficient to match the pace of electricity demand from AI data centers, and that expected retirement of non-renewable energy projects would increase the risk of power outages by a factor of 100.
