On May 16, 2025, DOE published a notice of proposed rulemaking to withdraw its determination that portable air conditioners are a covered consumer product under the Energy Policy and Conservation Act (EPCA). When DOE determines that a product is covered by the EPCA, it can set energy conservation standards for that product.
