DOE, DOT, and State Reject IMO’s Net Zero Framework, Threaten Action Against Supporting Nations

DOE, DOT, and the State Department announced that the Trump Administration will reject the IMO’s Net Zero Framework proposal, stating that it “unfairly burdens” the United States. The U.S. threatened to take action against nations supporting the proposal, including: investigating (and considering regulations to combat) anti-competitive practices, blocking vessels registered in those countries from U.S. ports, restricting visas, imposing commercial penalties on contracts related to ships and LNG infrastructure, imposing a port fee, and evaluating sanctions on officials sponsoring climate-driven policies.
