DOE Declines to Strengthen Energy Conservation Standards for Air Conditioners and Heat Pumps

As part of statutorily mandated update to energy efficiency regulations, the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) has finalized its review of energy conservation standards for Packaged Terminal Air Conditioners (PTACs) and Packaged Terminal Heat Pumps (PTHPs). In a final determination, DOE has determined that it lacks clear and convincing evidence that more-stringent standards for PTACs and PTHPs would be economically justified. As such, DOE has determined that energy conservation standards for PTACs and PHTPs do not need to be amended.

This rulemaking will be effective on March 15, 2023.
