DOC, DOE, DOT, and State Department Reject International Maritime Organization’s Net-Zero Framework

In advance of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) annual meeting under the London Protocol, DOC, DOE, DOT, and the State Department jointly announced that the U.S. will not accept the IMO’s adoption of its Net-Zero Framework, approved in April, 2025. The IMO’s Net-Zero Framework aims at reducing global greenhouse gas emissions from the international shipping sector, by combining mandatory emissions limits and greenhouse gas pricing.
